  1. What is Phishing?  

Phishing is the act of attempting to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as password, PIN and Credit Card details by pretending as a trustworthy person.

In the world of Internet fraud, gathering the personal & Bank information by sending emails with an intention of identity theft & to commit the fraud is called as Phishing.

Phishers are fraudsters who use their special computer skills on Internet and some harmful software to get your Credit Card / Financial information.

As soon as Phishers get your information such as Credit Card details / Username, Password, etc. they can use it from any corner of the world without the knowledge of the actual  cardholder & cause financial loss.

  1. Ways of Phishing

  • By Email

The most common way of Phishing is through Email. Phishers sends email pretending that the email is from your financial institution and ask you to furnish your card details / Username, Password and other personal information.

This email may contain a link to a site (fake site), which looks like as real site. If you enter your information into the web site, the Phishers will get your details.

  • By Phone

The Phishers also try to gather your personal information through phone by posing as employee of your financial institution and asks for your bank account number, Card number, Password, PIN Numbers, etc.

  1. Precautions to be taken to avoid Phishing  

1 Please remember Phishers can try to obtain your personal details over phone by pretending that they are calling from your financial institution. In such case verify persons identity such as person’s name, designation, Company’s name, phone number, address, before you provide any personal information. [BOBCARDS  any mode of communication
2 Whenever you receive any email claiming to be sent by your Card issuing institution and soliciting your account details – please don’t respond. It’s a Phisher for sure. [As such Bobcards never asks any such information from its cardholders through E-mail] 
3 Verify that your name in the email is spelt correctly, as the fraudsters try to guess your name by your email address. Please do not respond to emails where your name is not spelt correctly. Be cautious in case you receive any e-mail addressing you as “Dear Customer”, “Dear Valued Customer”.
4 Do not respond to any unwanted / Un soliciated emails. Should you get any suspicious e-mail, immediately forward it to systems@bobacards.com with a copy to avprisk@bobcards.com.
5 Please do not enter your Credit Card details & password in a website which you suspect is not genuine.  
6 Do not share your password, account details, CVV, Card Number, Expiry Date and other Card detail with anyone.
7 Never enter your personal information in Pop-up Screen.
8 Type manually, the Internet Banking website address into your browser & avoid accessing the site through link from another site.
9 Verify the domain name displayed to avoid spoof web sites.
(e.g.- www.bobcards.com may be altered by hackers as www.bobkards.com)
10 Never use Cyber Cafes / or other publicly accessible systems to do your Internet transactions.
11 Check for the lock at the bottom or https in the address field of your browser. This indicates that connection is a secure one.
12 When you are not using your computer for long time, please disconnect it from the Internet or shut it down. Never leave your computer alone without logging out of the Internet transaction site.
13 Use latest anti virus software / pop – up blockers to protect your computer / data from unauthorized uses, if any.

1 Do not respond to any unwanted / unsolicited emails. Should you get any suspicious e-mail, immediately forward it to bobcards@bobcards.com, riskmgmt@bobcards.com with a copy to avprisk@bobcards.com
2 Please do not enter your Credit Card details & PIN in a website which you suspect is not genuine
3 Do not share your PIN, account details, CVV, Card Number, Expiry Date and other Card detail with anyone. Remember…, your bank will never ask you to enter your PIN number in any email or webpage. PIN number is only for use in ATM.
4 Never enter your personal information in any Pop-up Screen.
5 Avoid accessing the site through link from another site. Try to visit the payment site directly by typing the URL address, manually.
6 Never use Cyber Cafes / or other publicly accessible systems to do your Internet transactions.
7 Do not be conned by e-mails offering you a chance to make easy money, especially if it is coming from overseas.
